In the format of a novel but with no more words than a picture book, this is the tale of a quiet and orderly spinster who adopts an abandoned baby monster. The subsequent course of events is highly predictable but entertaining none the less. The scrawly, manic, black-and-white cartoons which carry the main force of the narrative have a demented vigour which matches that of the hell-raising hero.
