Just Like Mr Croc!
Just Like Mr Croc! is another in the series of Mr Croc pop-up books. The original, Knock! Knock! Mr Croc was a refreshing take on the game ‘What’s the Time Mr Wolf?’. The same formula is used here with the game ‘Simon Says’. Lodge has done a great job in creating imaginative and sturdy moving parts. The most effective image must be the peek-a-boo page but perhaps I say that as it makes my 18-month-old daughter giggle uncontrollably. Other pages feature blinking eyes, nodding heads, touching toes and waving hands. The ending is the same as the others in the series, where Mr Croc decides to eat the reader. Lodge manages to avoid using the same pop-up techniques as prior books while still conveying enough scariness to be fun. A lovely addition to the pop-up shelf.
