Purple Class and the Half-Eaten Sweater
Illustrated by Helen Bate
(Frances Lincoln Children's Books)
112pp, 978-1845079093, RRP £5.99, Paperback
5-8 Infant/Junior
For any child or adult familiar with the workings of primary schools, these stories will instantly seem familiar – and their long suffering teacher Mr Wellington will be just as familiar too. The pupils of Purple Class manage to learn cricket at the same time as nearly sabotaging a cricket jersey; to play a practical joke while raising money for charity; to enjoy a school journey while also getting a brief fright; and to celebrate their teacher’s birthday with a chocolate cake that almost does not make it... I would imagine that this book is most likely to be at home with children in Years two to four, although its humour can be enjoyed by younger or older children too.
